dr craig burkhart md profileCraig Burkhart is a native Toledoan having attended DeVilbiss and Ottawa Hills High Schools.  He was the lead in DeViltries, was Tony in West Side Story, business editor of the school newspaper, and won the Ohio State Tennis Championship in 1969.  His undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Pennsylvania where he played intercollegiate tennis and squash as well as having a part-time job in the library.  He attended medical school at the University of Toledo College of Medicine, followed by four years of residency at the University of Michigan Hospitals.  He also has obtained a Masters in Public Health from the University of Toledo.  
From 1979 to 1982, he was the first head of dermatology at the University of Toledo College of Medicine.  He was first in private practice at a location next to Toledo Hospital at 3939 Monroe Street for 12 years before moving to his present location at 5600 Monroe Street in 1995.  
Dr. Burkhart is one of the country's most prolific writers in medical dermatology.  Counting his commentaries and editorials, he has over 750 publications.  Additionally, he has written over 30 book chapters.  At 30 years of age, he was editor of Dermatology and Allergy for the Practicing Physician with a circulation of 58,000.  In his 60s now, he is still editor of three dermatology journals, namely The Open Dermatology Journal, Dermatology Research and Practice, and the Ohio Dermatology Association Newsletter.  He also remains on over 30 editorial boards.  He was the second American dermatologist to be invited to lecture to the India Dermatology Association by live stream television to an audience of over 1000 on the topic of acne, a topic Dr. Burkhart has over 50 scientific publications.  
He has garnered eight research grants, has six U.S. patents, is listed in Woodward and White's national publication of the "Best Doctors in America," and listed in Marquis' Who's Who in America and Marquis' Who's Who in the World.  
He is past President of the Ohio Dermatology Association and Phi Beta Kappa Society and has served on the board of University of Toledo Alumni and Toledo Academy of Medicine.  He is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a member of the Ohio State Medical Association, and the American Academy of Dermatology.  
He is a Full Clinical professor at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Clinical Assistant Professor at the Ohio University of Osteopathic Medicine. 
Dr. Burkhart's wife, Tiina, has a CPA, JD, MBA, and presently retired.  His older daughter has a MBA and is married with four children in Lake Mary, Florida.  His son is an Associate Professor on the dermatology faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  His younger daughter owns her own commercial real estate company in New Your City called Dane Professional Consulting.
